OUT OF MANY, MORE: VOICES OF THE AMERICAS

April 26-May 4, 2023

This exhibition is in celebration of the Cities Summit of the Americas. Featuring artists with ties to the cultures and people from North, Central, and South America, they are also tied to Denver and the Mountain West. The show explores issues that face all of us today in the Western hemisphere. The artworks in this exhibition dialogue with and delve into themes that are being explored in this year’s Cities Summit: Climate Resilience, Democratic Renewal, Women’s Empowerment, and Uplifting Underserved Communities.

Curated by students from the University of Colorado Denver, they worked closely with artists to display artworks that ask difficult questions about colonialism, peace, and belonging. The artists in this gallery ask us to stop and think about what we do and the impact it has on our communities and landscape.

Denver is the Inaugural host for the Cities Summit of the Americas. The summit is organized by the City of Denver, State of Colorado, and Biennial of the Americas, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State. Civic and cultural leaders from over 1,400 cities will gather in Denver April 26-28 for the inaugural Cities Summit of the Americas. The leaders will participate in stakeholder roundtables, public outreach activities, expert panels, and networking sessions as they learn from one another. Thanks to a handful of supporting events including Out of Many, More: Voices of the Americas, visitors attending the Summit will also be able to experience the art of our region.

This exhibition featured artworks by Alejandra Abad, Gregg Deal, Victor Escobedo, Camila Galofre, Carla Gómez, Quintin Gonzalez, Chelsea Kaiah, Suchitra Mattai, Kristina Maldonado Bad Hand, Rafael Maldonado Bad Hand, Jonathan Moller, Eugene Tapahe, Steven Yazzie and Diego Zavala

K Contemporary Gallery, a short walk from this gallery, is organizing an exhibition in conjunction with the Summit, titled Taking Up Space, open April 25 to April 30. K Contemporary has generously lent works to this exhibition by Suchitra Mattai.
