Malintzin: Unraveled and rewoven

MARCH 31 - MAY 1, 2022

A journey through a jungle of textiles to re-discover the story of one of Mexico’s most prolific figures: Malinche/Malintzin. In this exhibition, we tease out the different threads that make up what is known about this iconic woman, re-weaving her legacy to reflect our changing views on what it means to be powerful, vulnerable, and cunning. View textile works by Lilian Lara and Norberto Mojardin and digitally interact with the Tillet Tapestry, a 100-foot long depiction of Cotez’s 36-month campaign in Mexico. Discover Malintzin in all her splendor, woven within the fibers of this historic moment, a story of survival, resilience, and reverence.

Explore the Tillet Tapestry on your smartphone.
